Making a mess

While reading in bed one night last week, I heard someone get up and go into the bathroom.

A few seconds later I got up to go check on whoever it was that had gotten out of bed.

I walk down the hall and there was Wade, finishing up using the restroom all over the cabinets and Park's stool.  Like it was no big deal.  Absolutely normal.  At least this was better than two nights before when he just opened his bedroom door and went right there on the hall carpet.  Tile is much easier to clean than the carpet!

Well, by now Colby is in the bathroom too and we're cleaning and laughing and poor Wade is just standing there with this incredibly blank look on his face.  He's obviously sleepwalking and has no idea what he's doing!  So I snap a picture to show him in the morning and we tell him that we love him and tuck him back into his bed.

Funny?  Yes.

But how many times has this story been a snap shot of what's going on in my life?

I'm busy.
I'm distracted.
I'm depressed.
I'm overwhelmed.
I'm stressed.
I'm totally functioning on auto pilot.
I'm sleepwalking through life.

I make a mess out of things just like Wade did in the bathroom. Still even when I don't feel like it or I'm not aware, God is always right beside me.  Wanting me to just open my eyes and see Him.  Really see Him.  See that He has a better plan for me.  A better way.

And even when I don't get it, I don't change, I don't wake up - He's not there to scream and yell and condemn me.   He picks me up, tells me He loves me, and and I as go to bed with hopes that tomorrow will be a better day - He patiently waits, hoping that we can talk about things in the morning.

John 14:27  "I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So don't be worried or afraid."

Not yet

After school today Wade casually told me to watch out because my phone is going to be ringing a lot soon. I asked why and he said it's because he gave his number to three girls today.

Then I found this in his book bag.

Um, sorry Lydia.  He won't be calling you.  He's in KINDERGARTEN.

First Day of Kindergarten

I'll let the pictures tell most of the story.  As you'll see Wade was very excited to start school!!

The only problem was his poor little brother Jake was not too excited to see him go.  School started on a Tuesday and on Sunday night I overheard Wade telling Jake, "We've got to play all day tomorrow, okay?  Because after school starts we're not going to be able to play again for 12 years."

Upward Soccer

Every Wednesday night this summer Wade and Jake played Upward Soccer. And they LOVED it! Jake (bless his heart) was the smallest on the team and didn't do lots of scoring but each week he'd run around yelling about how he was going to "smoke up the other team!"

A typical Wednesday looked like this... they started at 6:30 and practiced for 45 minutes. That was followed by snack time and a short lesson with the chance for them to recite the Bible verse that they learned during the week. Then 7:30 - 8:30 was game time. My kids are usually in bed at 7:30 so they loved getting to stay up late!!

If you have an Upward program near you I highly recommend it! You can check them out at www.upward.org.

Enjoy the pics!

Warning: Boy Talk

So, as you know, Wade is starting Kindergarten next week.

Up until this point in his little life his dad and I have been able to pretty much guard and protect him from most things. (Except physical injury, he's crazy klutzy.)

Before he steps on that big, yellow bus and heads into the unknown for the first time I wanted to have a little talk with him. So after orientation on Monday we had a conversation at lunch that went a little something like this...

Me: Did you know that you're going to meet all kinds of kids at school? Some kids will be good listeners. Some will be not so good listeners. Some of them are going to be friendly and you're going to like them right away and some will be shy and it will take you a while to get to know them. And some kids might not say very nice words and maybe even some words that you don't know. Promise me something, okay? If you hear words that you don't know, promise that you'll come ask me about them before you start saying them. Okay buddy?

Wade: Okay Mom.

Two minutes later.

Wade: Mom, what's a wiener?

And so it begins.

Orientation

Here are some pictures from Wade's Kindergarten orientation this morning. He got to meet his teacher, other classmates, get a snack in the cafeteria, and take a practice ride on the school bus. He's all ready for next week - his first day is Tuesday!

Kindergarten

Summer is almost over.

Like most of you, I love summer but the hint of a real schedule on the horizon has me excited.

Tomorrow is Kindergarten orientation for Wade. He is beyond excited! He has a summer birthday so he will be one of the oldest in his class which I'm hoping helps in the transition to all day, everyday school.

One of my kids will FINALLY be in school all day. No, there will be no tears here.

He's ready.

And I'm ready!

Happy Birthday Wade

On June 18th our sweet Wade turned 6 years old.

I've been kind of behind on the whole blogging thing - can you tell?! I've got three words for you - SUMMER IN ERIE. We're trying to take advantage of every moment we can!!

So Big Wade turned six. In what is becoming a tradition, he started the day off golfing with his Dad.

His big gift this year was a basketball goal. In shopping for this item we found out that everyone else in the world calls it a basketball HOOP... seriously? We wanted more than the hoop - we wanted to purchase the whole goal. What do you call it??

We love you Wade and we're so proud of you. Hope you had a wonderful birthday little man!

Branches

Wade & Jake came home from preschool this week with palm branches that they had made complete with the word "Hosanna" glued down the front. They had such fun telling me all about Palm Sunday... Jesus coming to town, the branches, the donkey. Then they promptly grabbed some Easter eggs and used the branches and eggs to play baseball with the until lunch was ready. Hmmmm, probably not what their teachers had in mind.
